Painting
Paint, Oil, Canvas ... the stuff of gods, but also the stuff of the devil. It only works when it is worthy of the message ... this is the only rule of painting. There really is no other. Oh there is one other rule ... The artist never gets to decide if the message is “worthy”. That is the job of others.
Drawing
I reject the notion of drawing as a preparatory process for other more refined media. No media is more refined than a pencil or piece of charcoal. Well, perhaps more “refined”. but not more fun.
Construction
This body of work is a 3d expression of my collages. They are conceived by the adult mind of an eight year old boy having fun with his glue, wood, paint, and saw. The subject matter inspiring the eight year old emanates from the experiences of my old weathered self.
Collage
When I feel like screaming I paint. When I feel like whispering (to myself), I collage. This is my world of abstraction. My language is purely visual, and my intended message finds its meaning in it’s meaninglessness and the small size of these works.
Sculpture
Most astute observers of two dimensional imagery assume, and rightfully so, that there must be some “trick” to creating 3D space on a 2D plane, and therefore sculpture in three dimensions must be a more straight forward encounter for an artist. I have not found this to be true. In fact the complexity of looking at “one” thing from every direction has given me a whole new appreciation for The Artist’s ability to create “every” thing from every direction.
